Kim Kardashian didn’t intend to follow in her grandmother Mary Jo “MJ” Shannon’s footsteps in such a special way, but she enjoyed being able to compare notes.
Kim, who had an infamous 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries in 2011, shared on Instagram in 2018, “I found a photo of my beautiful grandmother MJ’s first wedding. We were married for only 2 and a half months and our family gave everything to this wedding. She was so sad but followed her heart. Kind of nostalgic lol.”
But it was an anecdote that Kim and her maternal grandmother could laugh about, and one of countless bonding moments between MJ and her seven grandchildren, including Natalie Zettel, the only daughter of her late daughter Karen Houghton.
Sadly, Kris Jenner revealed on July 16 that her mother passed away just weeks before her 92nd birthday, meaning the Kardashian-Jenner family is currently mourning the loss of their matriarch.
Kim paid tribute to her “best friend, gossip buddy, and eternal twin” in her July 16 memorial, writing that MJ “taught us all the importance of family. Those values are something we will carry with us forever!!!”
And throughout her life, she cherished her grandmother immensely.
