Real have not imposed any sporting sanctions, saying the €500,000 fine concludes an “internal procedure” against the pair.

Real Madrid have fined Aurelien Choameny and Federico Valverde 500,000 euros (approximately $588,000) each after a collision on the training ground required hospital treatment.

The club said in a statement that it had not imposed any sporting sanctions on the two players and that the fine “this concludes internal proceedings against the two players”.

Valverde will miss Sunday’s Clasico against Barcelona after sustaining a head injury during an altercation. The club announced that the player will be out for up to two weeks.

Choamenyi took part in training on Friday and could feature at the Camp Nou this weekend.

Madrid announced on Friday that both players had “expressed complete remorse for what happened and apologized to each other” while taking part in the club’s investigation.

“Both players have apologized to the club, their team-mates, the coaching staff and the fans and have offered Real Madrid to accept any sanctions the club deems appropriate,” a club statement said.

Uruguay international Valverde was escorted by Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa to a hospital facility near the club’s Valdebebas training ground, where he required stitches to treat facial wounds, Spanish reports said.

Valverde tried to downplay the seriousness of the altercation with the French midfielder.

Valverde wrote on social media that “competitive tension and frustration escalated the situation” and expressed regret over media coverage of the incident.

“During an argument, I accidentally hit the table and got a small cut on my forehead, which required me to go to the hospital regularly,” he said.

“My teammate never hit me, and I didn’t hit him.”

According to reports, the two players got into an argument during Wednesday’s practice, and the altercation continued during and after Thursday’s practice.

Spanish media said Valverde refused to shake Choameni’s hand, then fouled him during training on Thursday, and the two later clashed when he injured himself in the locker room.

Tensions are running high at Real Madrid as they have failed to win any major trophies for the second season in a row.

The Whites are 11 points behind Barça at the top of La Liga, and Hansi Flick’s side could clinch a back-to-back title on Sunday if they don’t lose.
