Erling Haaland scored the winning goal in the 86th minute at Dallas Stadium, ending Ivory Coast’s hopes of qualifying for the World Cup and sending Norway into the last 16 with a 2-1 win.
Amad Diallo canceled out Antonio Nusa’s opening goal in the 39th minute on Tuesday, and Haaland’s fifth goal of the tournament sealed Norway’s lead.
They set up a mouth-watering matchup against Brazil on Sunday in New York.
For the African side, Nicolas Pépé was threatening on the right flank, interrupting early attacks, but Ghislain Conant came closest to giving his team the lead when he darted into the area and curled a shot into the side netting.
Yann Diomande picked up Pepe with the ball from the right, but Villarreal’s shot was mishit and allowed to be cleared by the Norwegian defense.
Haaland was on the periphery at that point, but as the end of the first half approached Norway took the initiative.
The Manchester City striker headed down Alexander Sorloth’s cross from the right, but the move sparked Stare Solbakken’s side to come alive, increasing the tempo and dominating the ball.
Their increasing dominance was rewarded when Martin Odegaard fed the ball to Nusa from the left, who stepped onto his right foot, drew the sweetest finish around the flying Yahia Fofana and scored into the top corner.
Haaland was denied a goal moments later with a final block, but from a corner kick Soros sent a header just past the goal.
Emmanuel Agbadu nodded wide at the other end towards the end of the first half, but Pepe was denied a goal by Orjan Nyland ten minutes after the restart, and Guerra Due’s first shot was blocked by Torbjorn Hegem.
Amado, who was brought on as a substitute for Cristo Inao Ourai just before the hour, cleared Heggem’s shot on goal over the line to bring his team level with the opposition.
The Manchester United winger kept David Moller-Wolf at bay with a quick one-two with Pepe and fired a shot past Sander Berge onto the turf, which bounced past Nyland and sparked massive celebrations.
But Haaland had the final say.
Substitute Oscar Bobb (Haaland’s former City clubmate) slipped the ball into the path of Patrick Berg inside the penalty area, and with Fofana stranded, he teed up the centre-forward and fired into the empty net.
Nyland saved Amad’s free kick in stoppage time, preserving his team’s slim advantage and ensuring Norway’s advance.
