But Vasana is not the only Love Island contestant to have fallen on hard times recently. Last season, Yulissa Escobar abruptly left the Peacock series after just two episodes due to the backlash she received online for using the N-word in numerous clips of her resurfaced podcast appearances.
“First of all, I would like to apologize for using words that I have no right to use,” she wrote on Instagram last June. “In those clips, I used the word racial slur, which I should never have used. I used it ignorantly, without fully understanding the weight, history, and pain behind it. I never intended it to be offensive or harmful, but I now realize that I don’t allow intent to have an impact.”
Escobar, 28, said he “didn’t really understand” at the time, but has since tried to “grow” from the experience.
“Since then, I’ve changed a lot, not just in the way I speak, but in my demeanor, demeanor, and respect for other people’s experiences,” she continued. “Growth means recognizing when you were wrong and choosing to move forward with humility and accountability, even if it’s uncomfortable.”
