Cybersecurity stocks fell on Friday after reports that Anthropic is testing a powerful new artificial intelligence model that brings more advanced cyber capabilities and also potential security risks.

Fortune first reported the news Thursday, citing information from a draft of a publicly accessible blog post. According to reports, the new Mythos model is being touted as Anthropic’s most powerful yet. However, the company plans to delay the rollout due to potential cybersecurity implications.

Anthropic did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.

Cybersecurity stocks fell on the news. iShares Cybersecurity ETF Market leader lost 3% cloud strike and palo alto networks It fell 7%. Z scaler and sentinel one It fell more than 8%. Tenable While it plummeted by nearly 11%, Octa and netscope Each fell more than 6%.

This is not a new phenomenon for industries that have fallen prey to the fear of AI disruption.

Cyber stocks fell last month after Anthropic announced a new code-scanning security tool to Claude. The broader software sector is also feeling the pressure from innovation.

The rise of AI and autonomous agents is changing the threat landscape, forcing cybersecurity companies to adapt to tools that facilitate more sophisticated attacks and hacks.

Anthropic announced in November that a Chinese state-backed group had used Claude to automate cyberattacks.
