Brazilian welterweight Carlos Prates dominated local fighter Jacques de la Maddalena to win their main event match at UFC Fight Night in Perth, Australia.
Preetz sent the Australian to the canvas with a chop calf kick late in the second round and knocked him down three times in the third round with a knee, head and leg kick before the referee stopped the fight on Saturday.
Prates called the match with the winner of the as-yet-unconfirmed upcoming welterweight title bout between champion Islam Makhachev and Ian Machado Makhachev.
“I can punch, I can knee, I can kick…so I’ve gotten better. I feel like I’m the No. 1 contender now,” Preetz said after the win. “I can’t wait to meet Makhachev and Ian and fight the winner.”
Prates, 32, has won three straight and improved to 24-7 with 19 wins by knockout. Della Maddalena, 29, lost his second straight fight, dropping to 18-4 with 12 knockouts.
