Congressional Democrats held the boundaries on their health care demands to discuss to avoid US government shutdown hours before meeting President Donald Trump and Republican leaders on Monday.
“The game of Republicans connecting with American healthcare is enough,” said House Democrat leader Hakeem Jeffries. “And no one can trust their words about healthcare.”
“What we don’t do is support partisan Republican spending bills,” Jeffries said.
Democrats argue that a deal in Congress to avoid a federal shutdown at 12:10am ET on Wednesday must tighten the Obamacare tax credit, which is due to expire at the end of 2025.
However, Republicans argue that negotiations regarding the continued credits in future years should occur after the funding resolution is approved by the Senate.
Trump was 3pm at New York State Rep. Jeffries, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-LA, and Senate Majority John Tune, Rs.D. I’m planning to meet.
At least seven Senate Democrats must vote with Republicans to pass laws that avoid the closure.
This is a developing story. Please check for updates.
