As the United States and Iran continue their daily attacks, Iran and the United States are also escalating their war of words, with both leaders threatening to respond more aggressively to any attacks.
“Our defense principles are clear: an eye for an eye,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a post on X late Wednesday local time.
He added: “Any attack on Iran, including on our infrastructure, will require a strong and decisive response.”
Trump’s comments: Aragushi’s comments came after US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that every time Iran targets a ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz, including ships near or in the Iranian capital Tehran, the US will “bomb and destroy one bridge or one power plant.”
President Trump has previously threatened to attack Iranian civilian infrastructure, which could be considered a war crime, including in an interview with Fox News last week in which he said the United States would “knock out all of[Iran’s]bridges unless we come to the table and negotiate.”
Iran’s response: Iranian officials warned that Iran would retaliate by attacking infrastructure across the region.
“If the US targets Iranian bridges and power plants, Iran will respond by attacking infrastructure and bridges throughout the region, including energy facilities where the US has interests,” the anonymous official said, Iran’s semi-state news agency Tasnim reported.
Iran also reiterated that it would “exercise its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz,” according to Iranian military officials.
