Live updates: US military announces completion of 7th night of consecutive strikes against Iran

US forces completed the latest series of attacks against Iran on Friday, making the new bombing campaign the seventh night in a row, Central Command said.

Centcom said in a post on X that the attack “hit surveillance facilities, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons caches, and maritime capabilities,” adding that the U.S. military used assets such as fighter jets, drones and warships.

This comes after the US launched further airstrikes against Iran with the aim of “continuing to degrade Iran’s military capabilities,” according to the US military. The Iranian government has also launched a new wave of an escalating series of attacks against US allies in the region.

Here’s what you need to know about the US attack and its impact.

• Pattern: US attacks on Iranian bridges, railway junctions and power lines linking major coastal cities could signal a broader pattern by Washington to move forward with options for gaining sea control of the Strait of Hormuz, analysts told CNN.

• Iran’s response: Mohsen Rezaei, a senior Revolutionary Guards official and military advisor to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, warned that if the United States continues its military offensive against Iran, it will become an “all-out attack.” The Iranian government has so far attacked US allies in the region, and has been heavily criticized by several Arab countries.

• Impact on people: The city currently under attack is one of Iran’s poorest and most ethnically diverse cities, with large numbers of ethnic minority communities distinct from Persian-majority centers like Tehran. Although these provinces are home to much of Iran’s energy industry and commercial ports, they have historically suffered from a lack of investment, high unemployment, and weak infrastructure.

• Caught in the crosshairs: An Indian sailor who went missing following an Iranian attack on his ship on Sunday has been confirmed dead, the Indian Forward Seafarers Union announced in a statement. India this week ordered ship owners and operators not to send Indian seafarers on ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz amid renewed hostilities.

According to the Indian government, India is the world’s third largest supplier of seafarers, with more than 300,000 seafarers working in the global shipping fleet.

CNN’s Mostafa Salem, Tim Lister, Leila Galagozlou, Aida Karimi, Magdalena Sofia Vitores Moreno, Eyad Kurdi, Fadel Alassan, Davis Winkie, Dalia Abdelwahab and Sana Noor Haq contributed to this report.
