Wildfires in Canada engulfed the boreal forest this week, sending toxic smoke across states in the Northeast and Upper Midwest. Experts from the home of the National Air Quality Index recommend staying indoors, turning on your air conditioner and using an air purifier when the air reaches unhealthy levels. Don’t have one? We’ve found the perfect product to remove smoke particles from your home.
Air quality in states near the border, such as Minnesota, was at dangerous levels. Meanwhile, populous cities like New York City and Chicago have an air quality index (AQI) of 200 to 300, which is “very unhealthy” for everyone. AQI will decline throughout the next few days, but experts recommend purifying indoor air after the smoke clears. This means you will need filters and air purifiers.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, it’s important to find a portable air purifier with a high clean air delivery rate (CADR) for the room you’re in. The higher the CADR, the more particles the air purifier can filter. It’s also important to find a filter that can capture the particulate matter of greatest health concern (PM2.5 and below).
