Jennifer Garner reveals why ’13 to 30′ brought ‘hard times’ for her and Ben Affleck’s kids
Jennifer Garner talks about a difficult time in her personal life.
The 13 Going on 30 alum, who shares children Violet, 20, Seraphina, 17, and Samuel, 13, with ex-husband Ben Affleck, detailed how the former couple’s 2015 separation affected their young family.
“When the kids were little, I hardly worked,” she said in an InStyle interview published June 3. “Then there was a lot of turmoil in my family and I didn’t do much work for a long time.”
Jennifer and Ben announced their split in 2015, and their divorce was finalized three years later. The Alias actress took a step back from acting to focus on her family life, but after their breakup, she leant further into that decision.
“First of all, when you do a performance-type role, you’re giving up a year or a year and a half of performance while you’re pregnant, giving birth, and recovering,” she explained.
During that period, she managed to land roles in Juno and Kingdom, but her agent suggested she either star in the 2013 Academy Award-winning film Dallas Buyers Club or consider retiring, according to the paper.
