Mr Wahi was reportedly arrested in a spot raid in France last month and has not been allowed to travel since then.

The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) announced on Thursday that the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) will not travel to Canada for this weekend’s World Cup match against Germany in Toronto because it does not have permission to visit Canada.

The announcement comes a day after Mr Wahi was implicated in an investigation into allegations of sports corruption, with French authorities saying they had detected an unusual gambling pattern over a yellow card he received in a Ligue 1 match while playing for his club Nice last month.

Wahi could not be reached for comment and has not been named as a suspect.

A spokesperson for the Marseille public prosecutor’s office told Reuters the 23-year-old Ligue 1 player was detained on May 29 as part of an investigation on suspicion of organized fraud, organized sports corruption, handling stolen goods and money laundering.

Wahi started up front as Ivory Coast defeated Ecuador 1-0 in their World Cup opener in Philadelphia on Monday. The federation said he plans to remain in the United States until his team returns home.
