The couple married in 2000 and welcomed son Magnus four years later. Brother Mathias arrived in 2006, followed by brother Axel in 2010. As their family and Ferrell’s careers grew, their shared sense of humor remained the same.
For example, on Valentine’s Day, “I always write a little message like, ‘My love for you has increased by 3 percent in the last few years,'” Ferrell told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest. “And luckily for me, she thinks it’s really funny.”
However, growing up, the children didn’t always find their father funny. Like when Magnus recalled on TikTok how his father “used to dress up as a medieval lord to embarrass me at prom.” But when it comes to incorporating comedy into parenting, Ferrell has found that it works 60 percent of the time.
The 59-year-old added on Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson’s podcast when the kids argued: “We’re just trying to find fun ways to relieve tension.” “Whenever there was a big argument, I would step away for a little while, come out in just my underwear, and say, ‘Guys, we’ve got to think about this seriously, okay? Look, listen to me.'” We’re just getting started (laughs).
Or, he continued, he would have them put their hands in the middle and say, “Hermanos siempres, always brothers.” “They’re like, ‘What?’” “Just say that.”
