Who is Oliver Tree?
Born in 1993 and raised in Santa Cruz, California, Tree (full name: Oliver Tree Nickell) was drawn to music from an early age. In 2013, he released the EP “Demons”, which featured a viral cover of Radiohead’s “Karma Police”. Three years later, he took the internet by storm again with the release of “Forget It” with Getter and “When I’m Down” with Whethan.
Shortly after, Tree signed with Atlantic Records and released the EP Alien Boy, followed by several albums including Ugly Is Beautiful, Cowboy Tears, Alone in a Cloud, and popular songs such as Miss You and Life Goes On. Tree released their last album, Love You Madly Hate You Badly, in April 2026 and embarked on a world tour the following month, stopping in São Paulo, Brazil on June 6th.
In addition to being known for his music, Tree also attracted attention for his personality.
“I was already spending most of my time on Earth making music and no one was listening to it,” he told Billboard in 2023. “No one paid attention to me. And I thought, ‘Wow, this is actually working. This is bigger than my music.'” All I did was show up with a stupid face on, and I think that’s a mirror to society and how stupid things have become in a lot of ways, but experimentation is also kind of the birth of invention, trying to create something that hasn’t been done a million times before. ”
