7. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest had memorable roles as Sally and Gilly’s Aunts Frances and Jett, and Channing recalls that most of their conversations centered on the older witch’s appearance.
“I remember my makeup and hair test not going well because I wasn’t wearing a lot of makeup, and we came up with the idea of ballet makeup together,” Channing told Vulture in 2020. This meant black lipstick and long, curly wigs; “the more outlandish, the more effective,” Channing explained.
8. When it came to France and Jett’s “timeless” wardrobe, Channing said the costume designer took inspiration from Steve Knicks.
“We went through a lot with crazy fabrics and clothes,” she recalls. “It’s just feminine and feminine stuff, lots of beads and jewelry.”
9. Channing lied about speaking French in order to secure a free trip to Paris to dub a film to be released in France.
In retrospect, it was “one of the stupidest things I’ve ever done in my life,” Channing admitted to Vulture. “I’m sure they hired someone else to do the right job the moment I left. But I really hated myself.”
