visa announced Thursday that it has successfully completed hundreds of AI transactions as part of a pilot program launched after the company’s product event in April.
Credit card issuers and rivals in the fintech industry are racing to build tools that allow consumers to have artificial intelligence agents complete certain transactions.
“This is going to be a year where we’re going to see a huge amount of material adoption, and consumers are really starting to get used to different agent environments,” Rubail Virwadkar, Visa’s head of growth products and partnerships, said in an interview.
AI is transforming the e-commerce experience for shoppers, changing the way customers buy and browse products.
master card The company announced in April that it was testing a feature called “Agent Pay,” which would allow AI agents to shop online on behalf of customers. A survey conducted by Visa in early December found that nearly half of U.S. shoppers use AI when making purchases.
Although data is limited, Birwadkar said the tool could be useful for ongoing consumer purchases and events such as concert tickets.
Visa said it is working with more than 20 partners on AI agent tools, with plans to launch pilot programs in Asia and Europe next year.
