World Tennis No 1 defeated Babrik in the 16th round, losing just three games, turning a shocking upset on the Kazakh player in June.

Released on September 2, 2025September 2, 2025

Defending champion Jannik Sinner said he enjoyed the atmosphere of playing under Arthur Ashe Stadium Light after continuing his 23rd seed Alexander Bublik with a hammer court grand slam and making US an open quarter final.

The Italian tennis player took part in the match on Labor Day and was not at risk against his tricky rivals, seeking a 25th major match victory on the surface of his preference.

“It’s always special to play for Ash,” Thinner said after Monday’s game.

“They’re a little different because there’s a little more attention at night, so I feel. It’s a different vibe around the court as well. It’s very loud. It’s also different to play.

“This year was my first time. There were good and bad playing in the evening. It’s very special and I feel it’s very privileged to step on the court at night on the biggest court we have.”

Just 81 minutes after the collision began, Thinner returned to the locker room after revenging in a shocking defeat to Bublik at the Halle Open Final on June 20th.

“We know each other well. We’ve had some tough fights this year so we know each other a little better,” said the top seed sinner.

“He played a tough game last time (against Tommy Paul) and ended late. He didn’t serve the same as he did. I broke him on every set and it gave me the confidence to play well.”

With a double break, Thinner helped Thinner build a 4-0 lead before he got on the board. And the dominant 24-year-old, 24, chased the drop shot to fire the deep backhand winner into the house, closing the opening set with another break.

Bublik’s attempt to disrupt the sinner’s rhythm with more drop shots turned out to be useless, but it was his service error that he chased him in two sets.

Next is a meeting with my fellow countryman Lorenzo Musetti. Thinner said it would be a great opportunity for Italian tennis.

“It’s great to see. Italian tennis is a great shape. We have so many players and different game styles,” he said.

“Lorenzo is one of the greatest talents we have in our sport. I look forward to this. From an Italian perspective, it’s great to have a certain Italian player at Samis.

“I know there are a lot of Italian players in the crowd, and that makes everything special.”
