The AI Standards Innovation Center announced the following agreements on Tuesday: google deep mind, microsoft And Elon Musk’s xAI will allow the U.S. government to evaluate artificial intelligence models before they are released to the public.

CAISI, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, “conducts pre-deployment assessments and targeted research to better assess cutting-edge AI capabilities and advance the state of AI security,” according to a release.

The center said the announcement builds on CAISI’s previous partnership with OpenAI and Anthropic starting in 2024. These agreements were renegotiated to reflect CAISI direction from Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and the U.S. AI Action Plan, according to the release.

In addition to Tuesday’s CAISI announcement, CNBC confirmed that the White House is considering creating a new AI task force to consider potential surveillance procedures, including plans to vet models before making them available to the public.

The working group will bring together a variety of technology executives and government officials, said a person close to the discussions, who requested anonymity because the details are confidential. This group may be established by executive order.

The White House told CNBC that discussions of a possible executive order are speculative and that policy announcements will come directly from President Donald Trump.

The New York Times first reported on the task force.

The White House discussion of a working group comes after AI giant Anthropic drew attention from government officials last month with its powerful new model, Claude Mythos Preview.

According to Anthropic, Mythos is so good at identifying weaknesses and security flaws within software that the company has decided to limit its rollout to a select group of companies as part of a new cybersecurity initiative called Project Glasswing.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei met with Trump administration officials at the White House to discuss Mythos just days after its announcement. The talks came after the Department of Defense called Anthropic a supply chain risk, alleging the company poses a threat to U.S. national security.

Both the White House and Antropic characterized the meeting as “productive.”
