And in the weeks since then, the situation has only gotten worse.
In documents obtained by TMZ, Mortensen alleges in the restraining order that his ex-partner physically abused him during two incidents that took place in February.
However, ahead of the April 7 hearing, Paul filed his own temporary restraining order, alleging that Mortensen had a “pattern of abusive behavior and coercive control” throughout their on-and-off three-year romance.
And lawyers on both sides agree that the talks will be tense, with neither side intending to make friends.
“Today’s hearing was used by the defense to assassinate Dakota’s character as a father. Dakota’s only concern is the welfare of his son,” Mortensen’s attorney, Joel Kittrell, said in a statement after the April 7 trial. “I’m looking forward to the 30th to tell the real story.”
Likewise, Paul is ready for his day in court.
“We all know that social media defines my client,” her attorney said. “Unlike social media, the court has to actually get it right. We believe the evidence, taken as a whole, will show on the 30th who the real abuser is and who committed the real acts of violence during the relationship.”
