South African swimmer Chad Le Clos became the most medal-winning male athlete in Commonwealth Games history after winning bronze in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay.
Le Clos won his 19th medal, ahead of Australian archer Phil Adams and England’s Mick Gault.

“You shouldn’t cry for bronze, you should cry for gold, but honestly this means the world,” Le Clos, 34, said on the tournament website after Friday night’s achievement.
Le Clos won seven gold medals, four silver medals and eight bronze medals in the Commonwealth.
He also competes in the 50m and 100m butterfly races, so he may not be able to finish in the Tollcross pool.
Le Clos made his Commonwealth Games debut in New Delhi in 2010 and won five medals at the age of 18. This is my fifth Commonwealth Games.
During his illustrious career, he won four Olympic medals, one gold medal, and 16 world titles, mostly in the butterfly. He plans to compete in his fifth Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.
