A tragic accident claimed a life.
A construction worker was killed in an accident on April 26 while building a stage ahead of Shakira’s “Todo Mundo No Rio” concert in Rio, Brazil, on May 2, event organizers confirmed in a statement on social media.
“First responders provided initial treatment at the scene and the fire department was immediately called to transport the patient,” the statement translated from Portuguese said. “Unfortunately, the specialist passed away in the hospital.”
“At this time, we offer all support, comfort and solidarity to the responsible companies and their teams, as well as the families of the victims,” the organizers concluded.
The local fire brigade (CBMERJ) confirmed to People magazine that the construction worker suffered “a pulverizing injury to his lower extremity from the lifting system” and had already been removed from the installation by the time emergency services arrived.
“Soldiers of the 3rd Maritime Group (GMAR-Copacabana) Ambulance Service immediately began pre-hospital treatment of the victim, after which he was transferred to the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital. Despite the efforts of the rescue team, he was pronounced dead,” the statement continued.
