Guthrie’s mother was right. The journalist met Feldman at his 40th birthday party in 2008 after she split from her first husband, Mark Orchard.
“He walked me to the door, didn’t even stay very long, and then a few days later he texted me,” Guthrie said on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2025.
Soon after, the two began dating. Five years later, the couple got engaged in the Turks and Caicos Islands. However, Guthrie actually broke up with him the same day Feldman popped the question.
She was tired of waiting for a proposal, “I really didn’t think it would happen,” she continued. “And I was like, ‘Honey, we love each other, but this has been going on for too long. Let’s say goodbye. Let’s leave each other alone.'”
Feldman, who had a ring in his pocket, said he was just enjoying the day. She continued that Guthrie had been “crying” all afternoon, but when he proposed over champagne at dusk, she began crying tears of joy.
“It was so shocking to me,” she added, “and I was so happy.”
Guthrie and Feldman married in March 2014, and at their wedding reception, Guthrie surprised guests by announcing that she was four months pregnant with the couple’s first child.
“It’s funny because I set the wedding date and bought the dress and then I realized,” she told Today at the time. “So I’ve been praying a little bit to be able to adapt to that, and everything worked out.”
