Asa Elerup is still dealing with the revelation that she was married to a serial killer for nearly 30 years.
Weeks before her ex-husband, Rex Heuerman, confessed in court on April 8 to brutally murdering eight women, the man known as the Gilgo Beach killer met privately with Ellerup and admitted his crimes.
Ellerup revealed in Peacock’s documentary “Gilgo Beach Killer: Secret House” that she is still trying to understand the dual nature of the “family man” she knew, and explained that she has since slept in what producers called her vaulted “murder room” in her Long Island home. Heuerman took seven victims there and dismembered three of them.
“The brutal truth is that Rex Heuerman said he disinterred bodies in this room,” she shared on the April 23 episode. “I’m here because I feel spiritual. I’m trying to spiritually tell the victims in my own way that I’m really sorry for what they went through.”
She transformed the space, originally used as Heuermann’s childhood bedroom, into a functional basement and decorated it with green Hello Kitty bedspreads and shelves of stuffed animals and stuffed pandas. As depicted in the documentary, the walls are decorated with flower paintings and crosses.
