The signing of the French defender, who is currently playing in the World Cup, is an important signing for Real’s new manager Jose Mourinho.

Real Madrid announced on Thursday that defender Ibrahima Konate has joined from Liverpool on a four-year contract following the expiry of his contract at Anfield.

Los Blancos and centre-back Konate have “reached an agreement to become a Real Madrid player for the next four seasons until June 30, 2030,” the Spanish giants said in a statement.

Konate, 27, joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021, making 183 appearances and bringing home numerous accolades, including winning the Premier League in 2025 and the FA Cup in 2022.

The defender, who is currently playing for France at the World Cup, joins a Real squad that has already been strengthened this summer by the appointment of manager Jose Mourinho and the signings of Spain left-back Marc Cucurella and Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva.

Los Blancos are also rumored to be signing Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries as they look to completely revamp a team that has failed to win any major trophies for the second season in a row.

Real have renewed centre-back Antonio Rudiger’s contract until 2027 after Dani Carvajal and David Alaba left the club when their contracts at the Santiago Bernabéu expired.
