In an updated statement released by Buckingham Palace, Andrew said: “I stand by my decision made five years ago to step back from public life. With Your Majesty’s consent, I now feel we must take a further step forward. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honors bestowed upon me. As I have said before, I strongly deny the charges against me.”
Carpenter said the decision shows the king “wants to put as much distance as possible between the monarchy and the disgraced prince at this time.”
It added: “His personal relationship with his family is likely to be more strained than ever, closing the door to a return to the royal family.”
This means that she is unlikely to attend official royal events in the future, as she has occasionally done in recent years despite backlash.
“It is highly doubtful that he will meet in public with senior members of the royal family for the foreseeable future,” Carpenter told E! “Expect him to be absent during your walk to St. Mary Magdalene Church this Christmas, and there will be many more Christmases to come.”
