The four-time Grand Slam champion performed well in SW19, losing only four games to Daria Kasatkina in the third round.

Naomi Osaka continued to make a statement at Wimbledon, as she combined her on-court flair with her growing confidence on the court to defeat unseeded Australian Daria Kasatkina 6-1, 6-3 on Friday to reach the last 16 for the first time.

Osaka, who is widely regarded as one of tennis’ top fashion pioneers, attracted a lot of attention in the first week with her eye-catching dresses, but the four-time Grand Slam champion is increasingly turning her attention to tennis.

After shedding another variation of her “Kill Bill” kimono walk-on ensemble, this time a floral-print robe, the No. 14 seed used a combination of power and precision to fend off Kasatkina and continue her best run at the All England Club.

The 28-year-old broke Kasatkina with a backhand winner in the second game, then backed it up with a deep forehand to secure a double break and cruise through the first set on sunny Court One.

Osaka, who reached her first tour-level grass court final before retiring with an injury in Bad Homburg, showed she could be a force in the second week of Wimbledon with a brawl after taking an early lead in the second set and converting two match points.

She nailed her second run, setting up what could be an interesting showdown with world number one Aryna Sabalenka or former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko for a place in the quarter-finals.
