‘Little House on the Prairie’ Cast Shares Key Ways the Show Stayed True to the Original Story
There’s nothing like a little reboot.
Fifty-two years after Little House on the Prairie first premiered, a new film will premiere on Netflix on July 9th. The OG show, based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books, aired from 1974 to 1983 and followed her life on the American frontier with her family, which included father Charles Ingalls, mother Caroline Ingalls, and sisters Mary Ingalls and Carrie Ingalls.
And if you like these stories, the revival’s cast wants you to jump on board with this version, too.
“We want this to be an extension of Tiny House,” Alice Halsey, who took over the role of Laura from Melissa Gilbert, recently explained to E! Will Malfuzzi of the News. “You can love books and old series, but hopefully you’ll love our series too.”
Still, there are some notable differences between the shows. Let’s take Carrie as an example. The character has been around since the beginning of the Emmy Award-winning original series, but did not appear in season 1 of the Netflix program. Viewers will also meet characters who appeared in the books but did not appear in the original TV show, such as Dr. George Tan (Jocko Sims).
