Nvidia has dominated the AI ​​chip market for years, but its days of total dependence are coming to an end.

OpenAI just announced plans to spice things up with its custom inference chip, Jalapeño, co-developed with Broadcom, joining Google, Apple, and SpaceX in a growing list of companies building ways out of single-supplier risk. The goal is not a clean break, but rather a hedge. Custom silicon means more control, hardware tailored to your specific needs, and the kind of performance improvements Apple unlocked when it dumped Intel.
