Yat Siu, co-founder of Animoca Brands, says artificial intelligence will disrupt the labor market, but it should ultimately create more jobs and create even more demand for creativity.
“We are naturally creative, but as we become machines and try to behave in a certain orderly manner, we are losing the creativity to adapt to systems,” Siu said in an interview on the sidelines of the SuperAI conference in Singapore.
But humans can maintain their creativity while machines do the work, he said.
“From an optimistic point of view, it means we’re all free to be creative, because machines can finally provide what we need to do on that side of things, while still allowing us to be authentically human,” Siu said.
Animoca, which Mr. Siu co-founded in 2014, currently includes more than 600 companies in its portfolio across gaming, decentralized finance, and real-world assets.
AI “will create more jobs,” Siu said, but noted there will also be disruption.
“AI’s superpower is that it can code anything,” he said, and that its coding skills “will eventually surpass those of humans…We are at a true commoditization of capabilities and intelligence, which means skills have to be about creativity and coordination.”
When asked about Anthropic’s recent warnings about the dangers of using AI, Siu said he was on the “optimistic side.”
“Most people will use AI in a beneficial way,” he says. “There will be some people who will do bad things and they will have to be stopped… but to me this does not seem like a nuclear arms race.”
