The mother of Cape Verde’s star goalkeeper Bosinha has been granted a visa to enter the United States in time for her 40-year-old son’s next World Cup match, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced.
Bosinha and his mother “plan to reunite in Miami in time for Sunday’s game,” Jeffries said on social media Wednesday.
Bosinha became a sensation in the early stages of the World Cup, making crucial saves in a 0-0 draw with Spain, one of the favorites to win the tournament, who were expected to eliminate small nation Cape Verde.
Ana Candida Evola was unable to travel to watch over her son because she had to pay a deposit for her visa to enter the United States.
After the game, Bosinha said his mother was unable to secure a visa to enter the United States to watch him play.
U.S. House Minority Leader Jeffries said he has asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio to allow Bosinha’s mother to enter the country.
The Democrat said all fees have been waived and travel arrangements are being made to take her to Cape Verde’s next game in Miami.
“I would like to thank Secretary Rubio, U.S. State Department officials, the Government of Cape Verde, and FIFA for working together to make this possible,” Jeffries said.
Cape Verde will face Uruguay in their second Group H match on Sunday.
