Liverpool finally ended their dreadful losing streak with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday, moving them into third place in the table as Mohamed Salah became the third player in Reds history to reach 250 goals.

Arne Slott’s side have risen to within seven points of league leaders Arsenal with 18 points, despite mounting pressure after four straight league defeats (six of their last seven in all competitions). Villa fell to 11th place with 15 points.

Salah scored in first-half stoppage time, taking advantage of a blunder by Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez, and the ball crashed into the path of Liverpool’s talisman. Salah scored his first goal to reassure a anxious Anfield crowd, joining Roger Hunt and Ian Rush as the only players to score 250 goals for a Merseyside club.

In the 58th minute, Ryan Gravenbirch fired a shot from the top of the box that bounced off Pau Torres and into the goal past Martinez, increasing the home side’s lead to two points.

Manchester United fight back with Diallo stunner to draw against Forest

Amad Diallo’s stunning volley helped Manchester United overcome a 2-2 draw at Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday.

United, looking to continue their resurgence under Ruben Amorim, looked set to seal a fourth successive league win when veteran Brazilian Casemiro headed home in the 34th minute.

However, United capitulated early in the second half and two goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona took Forest back within two minutes.

The visitors responded well, but their efforts to regain parity were frustrated until Diallo’s powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area gave Amorim’s side a point nine minutes into the game.

Diallo came close to clinching a victory, but United missed the chance to move up to second in the table with a win, and the points move them into fifth place in the table, ahead of rivals Manchester City, who they play on Sunday. Forest stay 18 days.

Arsenal extend Premier League lead

Arsenal’s set-piece dexterity once again proved irresistible as they secured a 2-0 straight win over Burnley at Turf Moor, leaving them seven points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Victor Gokeres took the lead in the 14th minute with a close-range goal from a corner routine involving Declan Rice and Gabriel.

Arsenal went into cruise control in the 35th minute, this time from open play, as Rice completed a thorough counterattack with a header past Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Burnley failed to find a target in the first half and looked even more threatening after the break, but Arsenal kept a clean sheet for the seventh consecutive game in all competitions.

Arsenal have 25 points after 10 games, with Bournemouth, who they play on Sunday, in second place on the 18th. Burnley are in 17th place with 10 points.
