Katie Stockton’s performance at high-tech companies is noteworthy

Earnings season is in full swing this week, with five of the Magnificent Seven companies reporting their financial results. Alphabet (GOOGL), Amazon.com (AMZN), Metaplatforms (META) and Microsoft (MSFT) will report earnings after the close of trading on Wednesday, while Apple (AAPL) will report earnings on Thursday night. These five stocks make up about 24% of the S&P 500 Index (SPX), making this a pivotal week for the market. Below are the key levels to watch as earnings are consumed. GOOGL is approaching final resistance from February highs near $349. In an earnings-driven breakout, the measured moving target would be around $400. Overbought conditions are a potential headwind to a positive earnings response. However, the pullback could be an opportunity to add exposure as medium-term momentum improves within a long-term uptrend. Initial support for GOOGL is near $311 based on the 50-day and 10-week MA. AAPL is stuck in a triangular consolidation pattern in a long-term uptrend. AAPL is not overbought yet and the weekly MACD “buy” signal is pending, favoring a breakout. If AAPL conclusively clears the trendline resistance near $270, it would be a bullish development that could allow for a measured move around $315. In the case of an earnings-driven decline, the first support lies at the 200-day (approximately 40-week) moving average near $254, and the secondary support lies at the lower end of the triangle near $244. AMZN is in a testing ground for profits this week as it could break through the final resistance near $259 this Friday. The stock is heavily overbought after a sharp rally, increasing the risk of a negative reaction or an unconfirmed breakout. AMZN receives support from the $240 gap, with a stronger zone partially based on the cloud model ranging from $220 to $232. Despite signs of upside exhaustion, if the breakout is confirmed, the medium-term reading is expected to be around $293. META is another megacap stock testing resistance ahead of earnings, encountering triple resistance in the $680-$690 area. A breakout of this zone would target final resistance near $794 in the medium term, but any negative reaction would be a setback and point to a further rebound at the 200-day (approximately 40-week) moving average. Initial support is near the 50-day moving average at $630, and long-term Fibonacci support is near $522. MSFT appears to have hit a significant correction low in March and has its own technical setup, as evidenced by the new weekly MACD “buy” signal and the recent breakout of the 50-day moving average. The weekly stochastics are not overbought and MSFT is absorbing profits in a neutral consolidation phase. The next resistance from the weekly cloud model is near $450. The 50-day MA currently has initial support near $395 and important long-term support near $350. The reaction to these companies’ results could determine the overall market trend in early May, given their performance on the SPX and their proximity to key technology levels. A breakout strengthens the prevailing uptrend, while a disappointment can cause short-term volatility and focus on support levels. —Katie Stockton with Will Tamplin Get free access to Fairlead Strategies research here.
