How Nēv Schulman wants to spend his first real estate committee check

For years, Nēv Schulman’s name was synonymous with the 2010 documentary “Catfish” and the MTV follow-up series “Catfish: The TV Show.” The 40-year-old now adds a real estate broker to his resume.

Schulman was born in New York City and grew up in the real estate world, where he saw his father, Robert Schulman, working as a broker at Caldwell Bunker Warburg for decades. His grandfather, Lowell Schulman, also worked in the industry, but before his death in 2017 he worked as a builder and developer.

“I grew up in the city and live in so many different areas. Living in New York City is so much about your apartment and your neighborhood. You really want to feel comfortable where you’re going.

“I grew up seeing my father work, passing on his real estate wisdom to me and finding ways to translate what was happening in his real estate work into life lessons for me.”

Schulman said his father approached him about joining him at the Coldwell Bunker Warburg, which began to think about the “Catfish” star really and what he could do in his career.

“I thought this was the perfect time to try. I’m here,” he says.

Schulman and his wife, Laura Perlongo, have three children and live in Brooklyn.

Schulman began working as a licensed real estate agent in August, but has yet to sign his first contract, but has already planned out his first committee check.

“I have three young children so I don’t even know if I’ll see the check. I’ll immediately bump into my bank account and evaporate the costs of living in New York with my three children,” he says with a laugh.

Schulman and his wife, Laura Perlongo, all of whom have three children under the age of 10, and live in Brooklyn.

Schulman knows that in addition to the cost of childcare, he wants to spend some of his money to celebrate with his father.

“I want to take Dad to a fun dinner and do something like that,” he adds.

And when it comes to his new career in real estate, Shulman says he wants to continue the legacy his father and grandfather have already established in the industry.

“If I could do that, I would be excited. It’s hard to imagine my ambitions being higher than continuing my family’s existing heritage,” he says.

“I also really like the idea of thinking of someone who thinks of me as a friend or someone I can trust, and I think it did a good job of creating it for myself on the show. I think when they thought of me as a broker, they loved working with me.
