Hilary Duff’s music career is no longer what it was yesterday.
The Lizzie McGuire star released her first new song in over 10 years, “Mature,” on November 6th. The song was accompanied by a music video that showcased her more grown-up years.
In the Lauren Dunn-directed clip, Hilary, wearing a gold minidress with ruffled details and a coordinating fur coat, gets ready in front of a vanity mirror, applies lipstick, straightens her hair and looks at a bouquet of pink flowers on her dressing room table. And when she finally steps onto the theater stage to perform on a white circular daybed, there is only one person in the audience. It’s herself.
“It’s like she could be your daughter/Like me before I was smart,” Hilary sings in the chorus. “I was happy to hear your words/You are very mature for your age.”
And these aren’t the only lyrics that prove the Younger alum is trying to become a more seasoned singer-songwriter. In the first verse, Hilary describes a NSFW scenario between an ex-lover and his new partner.
“Blame her on your vintage rug/I bet she’s so impressed by your Basquiat,” its lyrics read. “And she thinks deeply that you’re not now.”
