Google tests email-based productivity assistant

Productivity is one area where companies will continue to experiment with AI assistants in hopes of saving users time, which in turn will make them want to use them more. Google today launched one of its experimental email-based assistants, called CC, through a Google Labs experiment.

Powered by Gemini, CC connects to accounts like Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, and provides daily summaries via email. This “Your Day Ahead” email lets users know their tasks, summarizes their calendar, and provides important updates for the day from these accounts.

You can also CC or email requests to add to-dos, personalize lessons, recall notes, find information, and more at any time.

Currently, CC is available to AI Pro and Ultra users ages 18 and older in the US and Canada. The company says the assistant is currently only available for consumers’ Google accounts, not Workspace accounts.

There are several examples of AI-powered email-based briefs and assistants. Backed by Sequoia, Mindy currently works in creative and marketing, but started out as an email assistant. Other meeting note-taking tools like Read AI and Fireflies also send users daily summaries, but they may not have the context from email or Drive. An audio app created by the former Google NotebookLM maker, Huxe uses data from your email, calendar, and news settings to create a daily summary in the form of a podcast.
