The Australian all-rounder is ending his 13-year association with T20, the world’s most popular and richest cricket league.

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has declined to take part in next month’s Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in Abu Dhabi, ending his 13-season run in the lucrative Twenty20 cricket competition.
The explosive batsman was acquired by Punjab Kings for 42 million rupees (approximately $467,000) last season but was released by the franchise in November after returning for just 48 runs and four wickets in seven matches.

Maxwell, who has been playing in the IPL since 2012, said the league helped shape him as a cricketer.
“This is a big decision, and one I make with tremendous gratitude for everything this league has given me,” the 37-year-old said in a statement on Instagram.
“The IPL has helped shape me as a cricketer and as a person. I have been fortunate to play with world-class teammates, represent a great franchise and perform in front of fans with unparalleled passion.
“The memories, challenges and energy of India will stay with me forever.”
Faf du Plessis and Andre Russell also opted out of IPL 2026 last week, with the former South African captain opting instead to play in the Pakistan Super League and the former West Indies all-rounder joining the coaching department of IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders.
The 2026 IPL auction will be held on December 16.
