The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed Sanchez’s release. He faces a felony charge of battery in addition to several misdemeanor charges. Prosecutors said it was a dispute over parking.

According to a police affidavit, Sanchez, 38, smelled alcohol and approached Perry Toll, 69, as he backed his truck into the loading dock of a downtown Indianapolis hotel on October 4. The lawsuit will be filed on Monday Sanchez allegedly entered the truck without permission, physically blocked and shoved Thor, who then pepper-sprayed Sanchez.

When Sanchez advanced after being sprayed, Toll pulled out a knife to protect himself, authorities said.

Sanchez was hospitalized with stab wounds to the upper right side of his body, according to a police affidavit. Photos circulating online show Toll lying in a hospital bed with a brace around his neck and blood from deep cuts on the side of his face.

Sanchez was in Indianapolis for Fox’s coverage of last Sunday’s game between the Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders.

Sanchez had a 10-year NFL career before retiring in 2019. He spent four seasons with the New York Jets, appearing in games for Philadelphia, Dallas, and Washington.

He appeared on ABC and ESPN for two years before joining Fox Sports in 2021 as a game analyst.

Sanchez’s attorney did not respond to a phone call seeking comment.
