Former NBA players Malik Beasley and Ed Davis were indicted Monday on federal charges related to an alleged sports betting operation.

They are among six defendants named in an indictment released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.

Davis was arrested Monday along with William Brown, Rob Gorodetsky and Ernesto Plasencia, while Beasley and Paolo Zamorano were still in custody as of Monday morning.

Zamorano is an agent for NBA players.

The indictment alleges Beasley lost millions of dollars gambling during his nine-year NBA career, which spanned six teams from 2016 to 2025. The indictment says he agreed to adjust his performance in advance of at least three games during the 2023-24 season against the Milwaukee Bucks so his alleged co-conspirators could bet on his statistics.

Prosecutors allege Beasley accepted bribes to reduce or pay off a debt owed to Davis, a Minnesota Timberwolves teammate, during the 2020-21 season. Davis played 12 seasons with eight teams from 2010 to 2022.

According to the indictment, Davis texted Beasley in December 2023, saying, “The only way to beat Vegas is sports betting.” “…You can make a lot of money.”

A month later, Beasley told Davis that he would perform poorly in rebounding during the Bucks’ game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Jan. 26, 2024, according to the indictment. He finished with 3 rebounds, which is below the 3.5 betting line at some sportsbooks.

“Defendant and his co-conspirators placed numerous fraudulent bets totaling tens of thousands of dollars on defendant Malik Beasley’s ‘underrebound’ prop bet,” the indictment states.

As of noon Monday, the NBA had not released an official statement regarding the charges.

Beasley, who was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2016 NBA Draft, earned approximately $60 million during his NBA career, which ended in 2019. Davis, a first-round pick by the Toronto Raptors in 2010, earned approximately $47 million.
