Who is Love Island’s witty Scottish announcer?
Ian Stirling works two shifts as a narrator on both Love Island UK and Love Island USA, keeping him on a tight schedule while filming.
“At 12pm UK time I’ll be logging into Love Island UK,” the Scottish comedian detailed to TODAY in 2024. “The show is pretty much over at that point. Then I write for a couple of hours. I’m done by about 4:30. Then it’s dinner for the kids, bath time, bedtime. I wish it was more rock ‘n’ roll, but that’s been my life. Then I’ll eat a little bit.” After eating some food, I log into Love Island USA at 8:30, which is pretty early Fijian time. ”
Executive producer Parrish explained to The Wrap that Sterling was watching the rough cut on Zoom from his home, and that Sterling and the writers were “just observing the weirdness of the scenes and the reminders of what happened in the story, and that’s being recorded…We’re recording it with a microphone at home.”
His narration is added to the episode before it is sent to Peacock’s legal and standards team (which may include notes requiring last-minute changes).
“I tried to finish by like 12 or 1 a.m. and then I stayed up until 3:30 a.m., but the show in the U.S. wasn’t over yet,” Sterling said today. “In your dream world, you’ll probably be awake until 5 or 6 a.m., but that means you’ll basically never sleep.”
Proof that the series can create lasting bonds: Stirling married former Love Island UK host Laura Whitmore in 2020 and welcomed their daughter together in March 2021.
