After Inter clinched the Serie A title with a 2-0 win over Parma, Milan erupted in celebration, with thousands of supporters taking to the streets.
Just after the final whistle blew at the nearby San Siro on Sunday, fans dressed in blue and black filled Piazza del Duomo as smoke bombs and fireworks lit up the night sky.
Marcus Thuram took the lead in first-half stoppage time, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored the winner with 10 minutes remaining. The winners increased their lead to 82 points and clinched their 21st Scudetto with three games remaining.
After second-placed Napoli were held to a 0-0 draw in Como on Saturday, Inter went into the game knowing that one point would be enough, and the next day’s result gave them an unbeatable 12-point lead over the leaders.
Although there were few clear-cut chances, Inter controlled much of the first half and established themselves deep in Parma’s half.
The hosts came close in the 25th minute when Nicolo Barella’s powerful shot from close range hit the underside of the bar. The rebound hit Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki on the back, but the Japanese team reacted quickly and flicked the ball over the line to save the day.
In stoppage time of the first half, Thuram caused a frenzy among the home fans as he was freed by Piotr Zielinski’s through ball and slotted it into the goal, giving Inter the lead.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Inter continuing to take the lead, but the supporters in the stadium increasingly focused their attention on the 90th minute and were unable to capitalize on their advantage.
Federico DiMarco fed Denzel Dumfries a near-perfect cross late on, but Dumfries was unable to control his first touch and his close-range shot went over the bar, missing out on a chance to decide the game.
Mkhitaryan sealed the win with 10 minutes remaining when he tapped in Lautaro Martinez’s low cross, securing the points and sparking title joy among Inter supporters.
The win was a relief for Inter from the heartbreaking loss of last season, when they were beaten 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final and lost the Serie A title on the eve of the final game.
Martínez said: “I feel very happy right now. It wasn’t easy to start again after losing all the competitions I was participating in towards the end of the season, but I’m very happy with today’s result.”
“This was a very important goal for us. Many probably didn’t think we were the favorites given what happened last season, but we worked hard on and off the field.”
The atmosphere in the Italian metropolis was in stark contrast to a year ago, when supporters faced the combined sadness of losing the league title to Napoli on the final day and defeat in the Champions League final.
“There are no words, despite everyone who has jinxed us from the beginning to the end. Go all the way to Inter,” said Inter fan Fabio. “It’s amazing. It’s amazing. And compared to the way last year ended, this year is worth everything.”
Many supporters were seen crying at the celebration.
“It was a natural result. It was a difficult season because the conditions were always difficult at the beginning of the league,” said fellow Inter fan Federico.
The festivities are expected to continue until the Coppa Italia final on May 13, when Lazio deny Inter’s domestic double.
