Former general secretary Ian Alves has been found guilty by FIFA’s ethics committee of sexually harassing female staff.

Published May 5, 2026May 5, 2026

FIFA’s Independent Ethics Committee has suspended former Guyana Football Federation (GFF) general secretary Ian Alves from all football-related activities for five years for sexually harassing female staff members.

FIFA also fined Alves 20,000 Swiss francs ($25,500) after determining that he had violated the provisions of the FIFA Code of Ethics regarding protection of physical and mental integrity, abuse of position and general duties.

“FIFA takes a tough stance against all forms of abuse in football,” the sport’s international governing body said on Monday.

This decision was made after reviewing written statements from the victim, documents provided by GFF, submissions from Alves, and other evidence collected during the investigation.

Alves resigned from his position in 2024.

FIFA added that Alves was informed of the terms of the decision, which took effect on Monday, and that, in accordance with the Code of Ethics, the full basis for the decision will be communicated within 60 days.
