“My husband and I are very much in agreement on that and I think we have a very normal experience with our children,” Roberts explained on ITV’s Lorraine in 2019. “So, obviously there are advantages that I didn’t have as a kid, but I think that’s a unique part of the kind of childhood that I had. I’m raising kids now, and I don’t want them to go through some of the struggles that I went through, but at the same time, you’re doing it too.” You need to know how to make your bed, how to do your laundry, how to prepare meals. ”
she continued. “These are important life skills, so you have to weigh up the difference between what I see as some of the hardships I went through and what I missed out on as a child. They also have to run their own race. They have to have their own experiences.”
Meanwhile, while so many of Roberts’ experiences over the past 30 years have not been entirely her own, she strives not to let feedback from strangers affect her core, whether the comments are negative or positive. “It’s very humbling,” she told Paltrow, “when you have kids and you come home from some event and you’re wearing a big dress and heels and diamonds and you’re like, ‘Can I have a snack?'” And you go, “Yeah.” ”
