Elon Musk postpones CNBC interview

Mr. Musk “has to postpone” his interview with CNBC, Julia Boorstin said she was told after her interview with the CEO was scheduled to begin at noon Eastern time.

Musk was expected to talk about Tesla, SpaceX’s historic initial public offering and the launch of the company’s latest Grok artificial intelligence model.

“We hope he will give us new time for this interview, but we just heard that he will postpone,” Boorstin said on the broadcast.

Tesla revealed vehicle deliveries and production levels for the second quarter earlier this month.

The company reported total vehicle deliveries for the period at 480,126 vehicles, which exceeded analysts’ expectations of 406,600 vehicles. Deliveries are the closest thing to Tesla’s reported sales, but they are not precisely defined in shareholder communications.

Tesla reported production of 451,758 vehicles in the second quarter.

Despite the strong numbers, Tesla stock fell on the news. The company is trying to recover from consecutive years of declines in car sales.

Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 with CEO Sam Altman and other researchers. The two were close collaborators in the company’s early years, but their relationship deteriorated dramatically over the next decade.

Musk resigned from OpenAI’s board in 2018 after months of tense negotiations over the company’s structure and future direction, including a failed merger plan with automaker Tesla. He launched a competing AI company, xAI, in 2023, which merged with SpaceX earlier this year.

In 2024, Musk sued OpenAI, Altman, and company president Greg Brockman for backtracking on their commitment to keep the startup nonprofit. Musk lost his case this year after three weeks of testimony in federal court in Oakland, California.

Musk says he was ‘obviously wrong about Anthropic’ in post praising company

In a post on X on Thursday, Musk praised Anthropic as “clearly the leader in AI right now.”

In May, Anthropic signed a deal with SpaceX to use all of the computing power at the company’s Colossus 1 data center in Memphis, Tennessee. As part of the deal, Anthropic will pay SpaceX $1.25 billion per month through May 2029, according to regulatory filings.

The deal marked a notable change in tone from Mr. Musk, who had publicly criticized Anthropic over its conflict with the U.S. Department of Defense.

“I was clearly wrong about anthropology,” Musk wrote on Thursday.
