Dolly Parton still works a 9-to-5 job.
On June 24, one month after canceling a stay in Las Vegas to focus on his health, the country music legend attended the opening event for Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop, a rest stop on Highway 65 in Cornersville, Tennessee.
“Some of you may have wondered why we needed a truck stop, but we couldn’t leave it to Beaver,” Parton said, jokingly nodding to the gas station chain Buc-ee’s, according to Rolling Stone. “The door is open and I couldn’t be more proud.”
The 80-year-old, who wore a blue and pink fringed dress for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, added: “Whether you’re carrying luggage, carrying your family, or just passing by, we built this place for you.” “Good food, some serious rest, a little music, and people who are genuinely happy to stop by. That’s what this road has always deserved, and that’s what you’ll find here. Welcome home.”
And her appearance was a surprise for many fans. After all, Parton has been away from the spotlight in recent months to deal with health issues, including missing her birthday concert at the Grand Ole Opry in January.
