7. A turning point for the actors came during the film’s iconic lake lift scene, where Swayze and Gray bond over a difficult experience.
“The lake was horribly hypothermic, so we shot that scene over and over again,” Swayze wrote in his autobiography. “Despite the fact that Jennifer weighs very little, even the slimmest girl can feel close to 500 pounds when lifting a person in the water.”
8. But all their hard work paid off, with Gray recalling finally pulling off the lift with Swayze in his 2022 memoir Out of the Corner, saying he held back on the infamous move until after filming the climactic final dance scene.
“What I saw between us in that scene was also real,” she wrote. “True gratitude. Genuine respect. Genuine care. If that’s not love, what is?”
9. The scene where Baby keeps laughing while Johnny runs his fingers down her arm was unscripted because Gray was actually ticklish and Swayze’s irritation was so real.
“We didn’t even remember the footage was there, because we shot it where she wasn’t smiling. It wasn’t until we were in the editing room that the dance editor found this out,” Bergstein told Cosmo. “When we saw it, we laughed so hard. And when Jennifer and Patrick saw it for the first time, they laughed so hard, because we had completely forgotten that this even existed. We just thought it was so funny and we used it and loved it.”
