Jamie Dinn’s record-breaking Jeopardy! reign has come to an end.
The 33-year-old’s historic 31-day winning streak was halted during the April 27 episode of the game show, when fellow contestant Greg Shahade earned an escape before heading to Final Jeopardy.
In the final clue of Double Jeopardy, in the category of “The Shape of Things,” host Ken Jennings read out the clue, “The artificial islands that we see here in Dubai, with private residences and hotels, are built in one of these shapes.”
Jamie answered “palm leaf” instead of the correct “palm tree,” so he lost $400 and ended up with $16,000 to Greg’s $32,600 before Final Jeopardy. In the end, chess champion Greg bested the New Jersey bureaucrat, who had won every match since his March 13 debut in the trivia series.
Jamie signed off on Final Jeopardy by writing “TTFN” (ta ta for now).
In total, he won a whopping $882,605, placing him in fifth place among Jeopardy!’s all-time highest winnings.
Ken still holds the record with 74 consecutive wins, followed by Amy Schneider with 40, Matt Amodio with 38 and James Holzhauer with 32.
