Cricket: India loses sponsorship of T20 Asian Cup after online betting game ban | Cricket News

The ban on online betting games by the Indian government has ended the sponsorship of the National Cricket Team by Dream 11.

Released on September 2, 2025September 2, 2025

India is looking for a new lead sponsor to replace Indian fantasy sports platform Dream11 after the government banned real estate online gaming last month.

Dream11, which has signed a three-year contract of around Rs 3.6 billion ($44 million) that will run until 2026, is no longer able to sponsor national teams after the central government banned promotions, including fantasy sports.

Last month, Indian parliamentary senators passed promotions and regulations for Online Games Bill 2025.

Thanks to the popularity of cricket and the vast population of India, the Indian Cricket Committee (BCCI), which directs some of the world’s most profitable broadcasting contracts, has set a deadline for submitting new bids on September 16th.

The auction is unlikely to continue selling for a long time, but once the Asian Cup begins on September 9th, India could be on the field without a frontline sponsor during opening week, which includes a marquee match against rival Pakistan on September 14th.

The Economic Times on Saturday cited people familiar with the issue, reporting that the board is seeking 35 million rupees (397.6K) bilaterally and 15 million rupees (170.4K) per match for each match in the International Cricket Council and Asian Cricket Council Tournament in the three-year sponsorship cycle.

With an estimated 140 games from 2025 to 28 cycles, BCCI expects to generate around Rs 4.52 billion ($51.3 million).
