Dodgers’ Alex Beshear honored his wife Kayla and late daughter Sterling in his first game since his death.
Kody Funderburk and Alicia Funderburk’s parenting journey didn’t start out as planned.
In fact, the Minnesota Twins, who drafted the MLB pitcher in 2018, gave fans an update on the player’s family after he and his wife welcomed their first child, a girl named Murphy Joe. Her arrival came after Alicia was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma during her pregnancy.
“Fandy has returned from the paternity list,” the team wrote in the X on April 25, along with a photo of the couple at the baseball field, “but we would like to take a moment to share more of his and his wife’s story.”
“During her pregnancy, Kody’s wife Alicia was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma,” another post read, followed by a snapshot of Alicia in the hospital. “As a result of continued chemotherapy, doctors expect her to make a full recovery.”
Despite Alicia’s battle with her health, the couple welcomed their new baby safely.
“Baby Fundi arrived on Monday, April 20th – a healthy baby girl, Murphy Jo,” the team added. “Alicia and Murphy are doing well!”
“We are inspired by the strength and positivity shown by the Funderburg players and we wish them the best of luck and will continue to support them on and off the field,” they continued.
