As for Streep, she was excited to bond with the cast after fully committing to the role of ruthless fashion editor Miranda Priestly during her first go-round.
At the first table read, Tracy Thoms, who played Lily, a loyal and best friend to Hathaway’s wannabe editor Andy Sachs, told E! that she barely spoke above a whisper. News for 2021. Everyone has to lean in to hear every word she says.
“She wouldn’t even look at Anne other than when we talked about her, like, ‘So you bought that awful sweater in the casual section,'” Thoms added. “And Anne next to me felt like her soul was withering away.”
While Streep “loves to hang,” Hathaway revealed to E! At the New York premiere on April 20, she said she felt she could have been “a little edgier, a little taller” if the cast didn’t feel “very comfortable with her.”
But Ms. Hathaway, who had “made so many sacrifices” for the first film’s success, decided that was it and told the cast, “You guys can do it yourself.”
