‘Duck Dynasty’ star Phil Robertson’s son shares ‘straight truth’ about battle with Alzheimer’s disease
Bill Ritter is opening up about his personal health struggles.
The veteran broadcast journalist said he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and was forced to resign from his post at Eyewitness News.
“After a series of tests, my doctors told me I had Alzheimer’s disease,” Ritter told ABC 7 NY News on June 12. “This is what’s called ‘early’ Alzheimer’s disease, and the treatment I’m receiving seems to be slowing it down, at least for now.”
“But there are no guarantees because there is still no cure for Alzheimer’s disease,” he added. “So, unless someone discovers an amazing cure, tonight will be the last news show I’ll be anchoring for the very near future.”
In fact, Ritter, who is the father of three children with wife Kathleen Friley, emphasized that since his diagnosis, “My life has changed for the better and it has become even more important for me to spend more time with my family.”
But he has no plans to leave the news desk forever. After all, the 76-year-old, who has been with WABC since 1998, will continue working at the network to mentor the next generation of journalists.
